Loading the current browser benchmark…

The reference set is a small, mixed-platform sample selected from our October study. Each site is tested with the same 390 × 844 mobile viewport, a fresh browser and no network throttling. The chart uses largest contentful paint (LCP): when the largest visible image or text block appears. Your result is compared with that set, excluding your own site if it is already in it.

Google’s explanation of LCP · Our platform research

What we’d look at first.

The first big photograph

A full-size export can be much larger than a phone needs. Check its dimensions, compression and whether the right version is delivered on mobile.

Video and slideshows

A background video or several hero images can compete with the photo people came to see. Choose what should load first.

Fonts, embeds and extra scripts

Booking widgets, social feeds and old tracking scripts all add work. Keep the ones you use and review the rest.

The server response

If the browser waits before it receives the page, image edits alone won’t fix that delay. Check hosting, caching and the way the site is built.

What do the numbers mean?

LCP

When the largest visible image or text block appeared. A useful place to start on a photography homepage.

FCP

When the browser first drew text, an image or other content.

Server response

How long the navigation waited for its first response bytes, including connection and redirect time.

Layout movement

How much the page shifted during this run. Reserve space for images and embeds so buttons don’t move as people tap.

A lab run can vary with the page, browser location and what loads that time. If something looks wrong, run it again. A full review also looks at real visitor data and more than the homepage.

Questions photographers ask.

What is a good speed for a photographer website?

Google recommends LCP of 2.5 seconds or less for a good experience. That target is assessed across real visits; this tool gives you one mobile lab run to investigate.

Does Showit or Squarespace load faster?

The platform alone won’t answer that for your site. Image sizes, video, fonts and scripts all matter. Test the pages your clients actually visit.

Can website speed affect enquiries?

This test measures loading, not bookings. Faster pages can make browsing easier. We would also check galleries, pricing information and your enquiry process.

Do I need a rebuild if the result is slow?

We’d inspect the current site first. Image changes, fewer embeds or a hosting fix may be enough.
