The biggest samples are concentrated in a few states. Winning more states doesn’t mean being the most common platform nationally.
03 / Your kind of photography
Showit leads among wedding and family photographers in our sample. Squarespace leads for newborn and portrait work. Choose a specialty below.
Wedding · 3,549 websites checked
Five common platforms, not the full distribution. Bar scale: 0–35%. A missing platform is not a zero.
Pixieset appears on 11.8% of family sites and 10.4% of newborn sites, compared with 6.8% of wedding sites. We didn’t ask photographers why they chose their platform.
04 / The regional picture
Pixieset appears on 14.4% of the Midwest sites we checked—nearly twice its share in any other region. Missouri is the only measured state where it leads.
Midwest · 2,315 websites checked
Selected platform shares; not the full distribution. Bar scale: 0–35%. Regional sample sizes are included in the download.
The survey didn’t ask why people chose Pixieset. We’d need more research to explain the regional difference.
05 / A note on speed
We also ran a basic server-response check on 12,000 sites. This chart shows the share flagged as “likely slow” in the research summary.
Lower is better on this measure alone
Bar scale: 0–35%. This is not a page-load, Core Web Vitals or platform quality score.
Read this one carefully. The CSV records categories, but not the numeric response times or the threshold used. Per-platform sample sizes are included in the download. These figures describe that check, not how fast your site loads. Test your own pages before deciding to move.
06 / What should you do with this?
If you’re thinking about moving your site, these are the things we’d check first. Sometimes a few fixes will get you further than a rebuild.

Questions about photographer websites
There’s no single winner for every business. In our October 2026 sample, Squarespace was the most common at 22.8%, followed by Showit at 21.7%. Use that as context, then check whether your site can be found, shows your work clearly, takes enquiries and is manageable.
Squarespace and Showit were the two most common platforms among the 17,940 sites we checked. Together they accounted for 44.5% of the sample. Neither platform alone was used by a majority.
Showit led among the 3,549 wedding photographer websites in our sample, at 27.4%. Squarespace followed at 22.1%. That measures popularity, not bookings or business results.
Our sample shows usage, not a controlled comparison of quality. Squarespace appeared on 22.8% of sites and Wix on 12.2%. The useful next step is to compare your design, enquiry flow, costs and maintenance needs.
Photographers in our sample do use it: 7.5% nationally, 11.8% among family sites and 10.4% among newborn sites. Whether it fits your business depends on what you need your site to do.

About the research
Between October 4 and 24, 2026, we checked 20,412 independent US photographers found through public search and map listings, plus Instagram in five states. Of those, 17,940 had their own website. Platforms were identified from public HTML and server headers. We removed repeated headers and kept the first record for each unique host key, leaving 20,412 records and 17,940 unique website domains.
The public download contains aggregated counts and shares, with small cells suppressed. The original business-level sheet is kept private. Speed results are categorical: numeric timings and the original slow-response threshold aren’t available in the export.
